Mechanical Estimator

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Mechanical Estimator to join our team. The Mechanical Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for mechanical systems including HVAC piping and ductwork, plumbing, and process piping. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of mechanical systems, construction practices, and estimating techniques, with the ability to work collaboratively with project teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality bids.


Job Responsibilities

  • Review project specifications, drawings, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive mechanical estimates.
  • Perform material take-offs and develop detailed quantity estimates for HVAC piping and duct, plumbing, and process piping systems.
  • Collaborate with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams to obtain pricing and ensure accurate cost assessments.
  • Analyze project risks, schedule requirements, and constructability to provide value engineering recommendations.
  • Prepare detailed cost breakdowns and proposals for submission to clients.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations as needed.
  • Maintain organized records of estimates, bid documents, and correspondence.
  • Communicate with project managers, engineers, and clients to clarify project scope and ensure alignment on project requirements.
  • Stay current with industry trends, material costs, and construction techniques.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience preferred).
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in mechanical estimating, preferably with HVAC piping, ductwork, plumbing, and process piping systems.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, materials, and installation methods.
  • Proficiency in estimating software (such as Trimble, Quotesoft, FastPIPE, FastDUCT, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent mathematical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical documents.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with design-build projects.
  • Familiarity with BIM and 3D modeling software.
  • Certification in mechanical estimating or related professional accreditations (preferred).
